Day 57, Seline to Rijeka, Croatia

A more barren Adriatic Coast
A short blog today. The last leg of the Adriatic Coast drive today, a bit more barren, dry and quite rocky. The islands and peninsulas off the coast are totally bare of vegetation, making a striking sight with the dark blue of the water, the barren dirt of the hills and the pale blue of the sky above it all.
Our accommodation was a challenge to find, up on the hill, and there are major roadworks, meaning we had to instead navigate through the narrowest of streets, with just centimetres to spare next to the mirrors. A swimming pool at our accommodation, such bliss, so a very quiet afternoon swimming and reading. Independence Day here in Croatia, celebrating taking back of a city (Knin) from the Serbs. It's all quite confusing, the Serbs, Croatia, Bosnia and how it used to fit together. When you're all the way in NZ, and you hear about the war, 20 years ago, it doesn't register much and then you're here and you try and figure out what it was about.
This is our last night in Croatia, and I must say I have really enjoyed my visit to this beautiful country. I didn't know what to expect when we arrived a week ago, but the people we have met have mostly been lovely and welcoming and the country is delightful, I can highly recommend a visit.
