Day 178, Khajuraho to Orchha, India

Sunset over the river Betwa
We hit the road this morning, heading for Orchha, which means hidden place. No tourists here before the year 2000, the town is built on the Betwa river. The hotel we're staying in luxury tents, complete with bathrooms. We are staying right between the river and 14 monuments, built to commemorate the passing of a Hindu king. After a quick swim in the pool (bliss), it was time to go into 'town' with our local guide. First stop was the watch the sunset from the bridge, absolutely beautiful, sun setting over the river.

The bridge is narrow with no railings due to it flooding during the monsoons. To cross at the same time as a truck is truly a challenge. Locals keen to have their photos taken, but even keener to have their hand out afterwards. A visit to the local temple, the guide was great at explaining all the different gods, although a bit confusing at times, and we watched the local Hindu making offerings. The town itself is nice, and comfortable to walk around.
On our way back to the hotel we came across a wedding procession, the groom with his family on the way to the bride. It was fascinating, extremely loud with a 'disco' cart with loud music and lights, dancing, and the groom on his horse at the back of the procession.
The wedding procession

The women wore gorgeous saris, looking beautiful, and we were all pleased we got to witness it.
