Day 175, Bhandhav Garh, India

The classroom
What an absolutely lovely day. Started with a 'sleep in', woke at 7.30, which was bliss.
After breakfast we went on a nature walk with a guide, who was great at pointing out different trees and birds. The best part was stopping at a local school, where we were invited into the classroom of the 4 to 7 year olds. 42 children in the classroom, no desks, no chairs, just a few charts on the wall. The teacher asked one of the older girls to stand and sing a song for us, and after that a couple of boys got up and decided to sing as well. All the children had coal around their eyes, which is only still practiced in the country, as people believe it improves eyesight. As doctors have said this isn't the case, it is not practiced anymore in the cities. The children were all so fascinated to see us, happily waving, super cool experience.
The village house
Afterwards we visited a local mud house, the lady was happy to show us around the tiny house, a little open fire outside to cook on.
Later this afternoon we went on a safari, hoping to find leopards or tigers. We went in open jeeps, 4 of us per car. It was a great drive through the national park, near to which we're staying. We got to see spotted deer, monkeys, wild boars, but unfortunately no tigers or leopards. Just this morning a leopard was seen in the nearby village bothering the cattle. If a leopard or tiger does get one of the cattle, the department of conservation compensates the villagers for the loss, so they won't attempt to shoot the tiger.
Spotted deer
What a great day altogether. Tomorrow morning early we are having another attempt at seeing wildlife with another safari.
